Germination of a Project

In the summer of 2019, I started growing flowers for arranging in a 6 by 10 foot home garden plot- the only garden space that was available in full sun.  That same fall, my husband Joe excitedly discovered a small, story-book building that had once been an Esso Service Station, built in 1934, was for sale by owner. (Joe has an affinity for architectural preservation and a real love of automobilia!) He quickly snatched up the property and the lot behind it. My eyes and dreams grew big as I joyfully discovered the potential for an urban garden.

Cascade Flower Project gardens sit on a lot that once held worn-out car parts, a rusty old truck, a wonky and unkept tree, a sadly uninhabitable house that most likely was a comforting home at one time.  Since 2022, we have been cleaning up the space and have had help from many people to reinvent the use of this place.  If you meander by now, you will find a 900-square-foot, fenced-in garden space used primarily for growing flowers for arranging.

Another work (which Joe has lovingly named The Field of Dreams) has been in progress (and most likely will forever be in progress as its the nature of a natural garden!) since 2024 for pollinators and beneficial insects and to provide a passer-by with beauty and wonderment.

Meet Christina

I am a seeker of a life full of creative expression.  Working with my hands and being mobile have proved to be inherent traits.  I also have a real love for learning and for the natural world. Cascade Flower Project was born out of these qualities and passions and gives me the chance to nurture nature and people through urban garden design and artisan arrangements.

I call this endeavor a project for the sake of the ever changing ebb and flow of life and seasons, for the ability to allow it to grow in an organic way, for the transparency that this is a work in progress open to curiousity.

When not in the garden or arranging flowers, you might find me practicing somatic movement and yoga, baking, painting with watercolors, out for a walk, or spending time with Joe and family and friends.

Connection to the natural world is my tried and true companion on this ever-changing journey of life.
